Maxwell Wines was founded in 1979 by Mark and Peggy Maxwell and remains family-owned, with son Andrew Maxwell now heading winemaking. The estate is known for elegant Shiraz (Ellen Street, Silver Hammer), Cabernet Sauvignon (Lime Cave, Minotaur) and a long tradition of making mead - the Maxwell Mead is widely regarded as one of Australia's best.

The Maxwell Restaurant has become one of McLaren Vale's most acclaimed vineyard kitchens, serving modern Australian tasting menus. The estate also features a formal hedge maze - a fun addition for visitors.
