Currency Creek Cemetery

A pioneer cemetery containing the resting place of many 19th-century Murray River paddle-steamer captains.

Where the riverboat captains lie

Currency Creek Cemetery is one of the more historically significant small cemeteries on the Fleurieu. Many of the 19th-century Murray River paddle-steamer captains - the men who built the Goolwa river port and shipped wheat and wool down to the open sea - are buried here.

Quiet atmosphere

The cemetery is small, quiet and well-maintained, set on a hillside above the Currency Creek valley. Worth a 10-minute stop for visitors interested in the river port era of South Australian history.
